Yesterday the GetJar app store started following in the footsteps of Amazon when they started offering their first free apps. Backbreaker, SwiftKey X, Age of Zombies, and Paper Glider, and a number of other titles can now be downloaded at no cost from GetJar.
It’s good to see others experimenting with new marketing ides, but I wish it were someone other than Getjar. This is an app store that I never took all that seriously and in fact I’ve never used. You see, before I can download an app GetJar insist on knowing which model Android phone I use. Unfortunately, I use Android tablets (which are not listed in the GetJar catalogue).
It’s also not a very large appstore, either. As of late May 2011 GetJar only had around 4,300 apps, compared to 10.4k at Amazon, 18.5k at PocketGear, and 23.2k at Handster.
